Studio time!

Man, oh MAN...am I psyched!

Tomorrow I'm heading into a studio in Manhattan to begin work on recording my next album. Well, to clarify, the work is already started. The beats have all been built, the songs have been arranged and scratch vocals have all been recorded. I guess what I'll mostly be doing is re-recording ALL of the vocals and remixing the beats with someone who actually understands equalization. (As opposed to someone who just pretends to understand it...like me.) The fella who's engineering this project works at a big hot shot studio in the city that mostly caters to audio-mixing and additional dialogue recording for television and film. Many celebrities pass through on a daily basis, from what I hear. This young man is a gifted young music engineer AND an STD fan. Here's the kicker...we're doing all of the recording while the studio is closed. You know what that means.

I mean...I hope you know what that means.

I'm going to record a whole bunch of my newer songs from the demos that I circulate on the road: "Cat People," "Night of the Living Christ," "My Dinner with Jello," "Craig's List," "My Last Song," "The Rappist," etc. I'm also going to record some brand-new barely-ever-heard numbers like "This Party Sucks," "It's a Wonderful Death," and "Quit Your Day Job." I'll likely even re-record ONE song from Meet My Maker, and put it out again. This time however, it'll surely sound far better than it did on my freshman effort.

This will make for a nice and fun, yet completely productive, break from the non-stop carpal tunnel nightmare that is tour booking and promoting. August is booked! Press is out! Now I'm right back at square one as I start filling in the blanks for October's tour. I've only got a couple of weeks before I leave. Hopefully I can get a huge chunk of both projects (recording and October booking) completed before I hit the road again.

Cross your fingers and turn your crucifixes upside down.

Excellent!

But I have to admit I am not sure what "that means." Does it means you're a criminal? and it's free?

I would rather not clarify in print, because any one of the 2,000 daily readers of this self-indulgent journal may report back to my man's superiors. However...let me just say, my lovely and clever friend, your instincts serve you well.

Seriously?!? You still do mastering at Toad's? It seems quite likely that I will take you up on your services again. Let's discuss this in email:

Don't Fear the Rappist

I feel great joy for you. Thanks for takin the bulk on this tour, I don't know if I could've done it otherwise. And by 'takin the bulk,' I don't mean anything gross. See you August 7th! Love,
Z

Re: Don't Fear the Rappist

Don't sweat it, Z. You "took the bulk" in April, and I have plenty of time to do it this time. It's the very least I could do. Don't forget, though, that 6 of those dates are for you/FedUp to book. Let me know if you run into trouble and want me to take those also. I think I can do it. It's kind of a bitch that I'm going to lose 3 weeks of crucial booking time on the road. I hope I can get alot done before August 2nd.

Run it!
